Flourish Cafe Champion

Overview:

Reach is a Drug and Alcohol Community Support Service. We cover the whole of Dorset, minus Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole. We have a large team that includes Community Development, Recovery Workers, Nurses, Prescribers, Volunteer Roles and much more. We offer support for those have issues with their drug and/or alcohol use from point of referral to achieving their own goals. We have several pathways within our service that include structured group work, psychosocial interventions, prescribing, needle exchange, detox and outdoor peer activities.

Starting a recovery journey can be daunting and that’s why it’s so important for us to create a welcoming and safe environment in our hubs and beyond. Our network Flourish cafes aim to do just that – by having lively and friendly spaces we can start to build stronger recovery communities. Our Recovery Café Champions support this in several ways, whether that’s offering a listening ear over coffee or leading group activities.

We opened the Flourish Café in Weymouth at the beginning of October 2022 with the aim of setting up a weekly café for service users to attend and where they can relax and explore different leisure activities together to support their recovery and ‘flourish together’. TheFlourish Café activities are entirely guided by what service users want to get out of it and are aimed to benefit the entire recovery community. It is a great chance to find additional support from those with lived experience. It also offers the opportunity to get out, forget about life’s problems and get into something new and exciting all whilst meeting new friends along the way. The ultimate goal is to tutor participants about the workings of a café and eventually to have the café to be self-run and overseen by the Flourish Café Champion.

Key Skills:

We are looking for people who are passionate about recovery and feel confident communicating with others. There are plenty of opportunities for new activities within our cafes whether that’s art groups or chess and we welcome anyone with a particular skill that could be used for this. This is an exciting time to be involved in our café spaces, as we continue to grow supportive environments within the community. There is no requirement for you to have lived experience of drug and/or alcohol addictions or to have been in a recovery focused role before. Equally, we invite people to apply who have previously, or are currently, engaged in Reach’s services, however please note that you must be stable in your recovery and not using any illicit substances.
