Recovery Worker – HMP Exeter

Location:  HMP Exeter 

Hours: Full time, 35 hours per week (to include some weekend working) 

Salary: £21,394 to £25,074 per annum depending on experience 

Contract: Permanent

Due to an internal promotion, we’re looking for a Recovery Worker that is make a real difference by joining our Integrated Substance Misuse Service within HMP Exeter 

As a Recovery Worker, you will be part of an established and passionate team, you will work within the prison to support adult male prisoners with current or past problematic drug and alcohol use, promoting a culture of ‘visible contagious recovery’.  

 As a Recovery Worker, no two days are the same and you will be autonomous in managing your own workload.   

You will provide recovery focused assessment, information, planning and guidance to a caseload of our service users in the prison. As a Recovery Worker, you will use a range of low to high intensity interventions, including motivational interviewing and group you. You will also work in partnership with other partner organisations to help prepare individuals for release back to the community. 

Who we are looking for: 

Most importantly, you will be someone with a genuine interest in the understanding of substance misuse problems and a positive, recovery focused attitude.   

Whilst experience in a similar sector or environment would be an advantage, we are looking for someone who wants to utilise their transferrable skills to make a real difference.  

Ideally, you will have: 

  • Experience handling a caseload, undertaking assessments and working with individuals to develop, implement and review action plans.  
  • An understanding of group working, group dynamics, and competent group work facilitation skills. 
  • Excellent communication, organisation and time management skills. 
  • Experience managing your own priorities in order to carry a diverse workload with competing demands.
