What a Day!

A tale of fundraising, family and fresh air by Lucie Hartley – CEO of EDP Drug & Alcohol Services I was counting my blessings this Saturday (February 2nd).  Aside from the 5.30am start, it was a stunning day, I spent the day in a beautiful location in South Devon and my son (Liam) and 3 colleagues (Nathan, Marcus and Graham) were doing a sponsored run for EDP. I’d never heard of the South Devon marathon before.  According to the website it’s a ‘cult classic’ and the first of the Coastal Trails.  It’s described as ‘simultaneously picturesque and punishing’.  Seems...What a Day!

‘This is me’ – how telling your life story honestly is paying dividends for people with complex lives

A simple document which tells a different story from a traditional curriculum vitae is having a huge impact on the job prospects and employability of ex-offenders, substance misusers and people with a range of mental and physical health issues who often feel excluded from the job markets due to societal pre-conceptions. To give one pertinent example. Picture the moment that an offender’s feet cross the threshold of a prison into freedom. It’s a daunting and often frightening prospect to build a new life with new routines, often away from circles of acquaintances that were responsible for previous harmful behaviours....‘This is me’ – how telling your life story honestly is paying dividends for people with complex lives

The Four Not So Wise Men Run Marathons for Hot Foot

Why spend your weekends relaxing when you could be running up and down cliffs for charity? In February 2019, The Four Not So Wise Men (Liam, Marcus, Nathan and Graham) will be running an ultra-marathon, marathon, half-marathon and 10k between them to raise money for EDP Drug & Alcohol Services. Amazingly, everything they manage to raise up to £8,000 will be doubled by their employer, global asset management company, Schroders. Liam, Marcus, Nathan and Graham are taking part in the South Devon Coastal Trail series which is recognised as both picturesque and punishing. It involves weaving around technical coastlines before heading inland...The Four Not So Wise Men Run Marathons for Hot Foot

2017 Drug Misuse Death Figures

Figures released on the 6th August 2018 by the Office for National Statistics reveal that deaths related to drug misuse in England have fallen, with 2,310 deaths in 2017, compared with 2,386 in 2016 (via Collective Response). EDP are pleased that services like ours nationwide are working hard to prevent these figures rising. However, like Collective Response, we too are aware that these figures only represent overdose deaths, and in reality, even more people are dying from health conditions that have been caused by many years of drug misuse. Below are some of the main points from the report: “The...2017 Drug Misuse Death Figures
