Integrated Substance Misuse Service in Devon and Dorset Prisons

EDP’s Integrated Substance Misuse Service is a recovery orientated service within Devon and Dorset Prisons. The service provides:

  • Fully integrated services with a single recovery culture, vision and goal
  • Dedicated Recovery Workers to collaboratively coordinate care with individual service users
  • Strengths based assessment with recovery planned pathways tailored to individuals’ goals and aspirations
  • A range of clinical interventions dependent on individual need and supported by a broad range of recovery focused programmes and activities. These programme and activities are suitable for both drug and alcohol misuse, from brief interventions to intensive programmes
  • Two dedicated alcohol programmes, one for dependent drinkers and one for alcohol and violence
  • Innovative recovery focused activities including a social enterprise
  • Family Work which deliver parenting and relationship skills interventions and help prepare service users for their return to their family environment. Support is also available for family and carers of prisoners
  • Joint working with other departments including mental health in line with the Care Programme Approach
  • Dedicated release preparation and planning module
  • Services are supported by trained peer supporters and mentors and a range of mutual aid options including SMART Recovery, Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous
