Using outdoor spaces and physical activity in recovery
Improves mental wellbeing | Encourages individual development | Supports social & community development Provides volunteering opportunities | Builds resilience
We’re able to offer a range of health and wellbeing activities like walking, kayaking, yoga, tennis, cycling and tai chi – often for free or at a very low cost.
Flourish in Nature began thanks to support from Sport England, Active Devon and the Devon Wildlife Trust. Today it runs independently entirely due to the time, commitment and energy of volunteer activity leaders.
Having a chance to enjoy the outdoors and meet new people who ‘get you’ is often very beneficial for wellbeing – all we ask is that you are substance free on the day of the activity.
And if you enjoy what we’re doing – we can offer you greater opportunities too.
If you’re at least a month into active, stable recovery, this project offers you the chance to train as an activity leader, with all the skills and qualifications to match. You’ll learn alongside partners like the Devon Wildlife Trust and Active Devon to become Activity Leads or Flourish in Nature volunteers. Once you’ve completed this training, you’ll then get the chance to learn more and develop your passions.
You’ll be able to take nature or sport based qualifications ranging from outdoor first aid or yoga instruction to canoe leader training to name just a few. With the confidence you gain and the enhanced communication, leadership and listening skills, you’ll have a solid foundation for a future career in outdoor activities.
