EDP’s Amanda Sherriff wins regional prison award
Here is our talented Good Prisons Project lead Amanda Sherriff being presented with her 2018/19 SWSC HMPPS Staff Award. She won the prestigious Partnership Working category. These awards recognise the efforts of staff who have either ‘gone the extra mile’ or who have performed their normal day to day duties extraordinarily well. Everyone at EDP knows how impressive her work is and we are delighted that her achievements have been recognised by the prison service regionally. Here’s why she won:
“An individual with an infectious appetite and genuine desire to help others, Amanda is always seeking new ideas along with challenging existing practices to support Reducing Re-Offending using an extensive network of working relationships with the partners, agencies and volunteers that she brings together with a clear focus on a common goal of assisting offenders to better their lives.
Amanda was instrumental in hosting an extremely successful “Outside In event”, inviting agencies into the establishment for a day to provide knowledge to both staff and prisoners of support services which can assist both within custody and upon release. This event provided addition support to the Keyworker scheme, allowing staff to gain knowledge for prisoner advice and signposting. Amanda’s vision however was to utilise it as a springboard to focus the attention of the agencies and secure funding through the Police and Crime Commissioning Office for a “Departure Lounge” project.
Amanda’s work has a significant positive impact on prisoners, the staff, the establishment and the public by bring together support services which contribute towards a rehabilitative culture and helps reduce the risk of reoffending. The level of self-drive and passion towards her role sets her apart from many other staff and I believe she is a worthy candidate for this award.
Overall Amanda is an extremely valued and committed individual within our establishment , those in our care most definitely benefit for the outstanding contribution that she makes on a daily basis”.
