Burma, Beards and Bike Rides

A father’s campaign to help people effected by substance misuse leads him to Asia  “I’m a Devon lad, with Irish parents, Scottish roots and a bit of a thing for Big Macs. How on earth did I let myself be talked into travelling to Burma and cycling through jungles and mountains?!” Last Sunday, surrounded by his friends and family, Malcolm Mccready watched as a year’s worth of beard growth fell to the floor. It is a happy, intimate moment, as his brother-in-law and cycling buddy Colin, gives him a close shave. But this is more than just a routine...Burma, Beards and Bike Rides

Time to Flourish

My Name is Paul, for more years than I care to remember I had been using alcohol to soothe my tormented soul Once upon a time there was a rag tag bunch of misfits, people who had made a habit of taking the wrong turn in life. Once their bodies and minds had had enough torture through their owners unwise decisions a moment of clarity befell them, “I have had enough” they all said “I’m going to change my ways”. Wise people from the big house surrounded by Buddleia agonised “how shall we help them”? “I know” said someone...Time to Flourish

What a Day!

A tale of fundraising, family and fresh air by Lucie Hartley – CEO of EDP Drug & Alcohol Services I was counting my blessings this Saturday (February 2nd).  Aside from the 5.30am start, it was a stunning day, I spent the day in a beautiful location in South Devon and my son (Liam) and 3 colleagues (Nathan, Marcus and Graham) were doing a sponsored run for EDP. I’d never heard of the South Devon marathon before.  According to the website it’s a ‘cult classic’ and the first of the Coastal Trails.  It’s described as ‘simultaneously picturesque and punishing’.  Seems...What a Day!
