Hot Foot Enterprises at SERIF Conference

Earlier this month Rod, EDP’s Social Enterprise Development Officer, and Dave, Service Manager at HMP Dartmoor, were invited to speak at the Social Enterprise Research and Innovation Foundation (SERIF) conference in Swindon about our Social Enterprise work in prisons. They gave examples of the work done by Hot Foot Enterprises. The SERIF conference considered the potential contribution of social enterprise and mutuals to reducing reoffending and to the delivery of the prison reform agenda. The conference event featured presentations from three established (including Hot Foot Enterprises) and one emerging social enterprise. An extract from Rod and Dave’s presentation have been...Hot Foot Enterprises at SERIF Conference

EDP Dorset team take time to reflect

Earlier this month the EDP Dorset team celebrated their successes from the last 10 years as workers, volunteers and peer mentors from all across Dorset took time out to come together. They recognised their individual and team achievements giving each member of a team a certificate of recognition. Annette and Janice share their experiences of the day: I thoroughly enjoyed the whole day.  It was great to meet everyone in person and experience the EDP ‘vibe’.  The atmosphere was so friendly, supportive, relaxed and celebratory and the presentations showed just how much everyone in EDP is valued.     Exploring...EDP Dorset team take time to reflect

Sleep out making a difference through giving up a bed for the night

Amazing support! We are so grateful to everyone who made EDP’s first ever sleep out on Friday 28th April such a great success. 12 people slept out all night with many more supporting the event. We are extremely grateful to Saxon Square for giving us permission to hold the event in their shopping centre, to the council for keeping the toilets open all night, to Funky Little Choir who performed, to Christchurch Rotary and Shelterbox for bringing down their shelter for us to use and the local police for supporting the event. So many local businesses got involved in promoting...Sleep out making a difference through giving up a bed for the night

What’s it like to work in EDP’s prison substance misuse service?

Jodie Bance, social work placement student, talks about her experiences with our prison Substance Misuse Service. “I have been fortunate enough to receive a social work placement with EDP’s Prison Substance  Misuse Team in Exeter. What has been apparent from day one is the sheer dedication from every member of the team. Working within a remand prison comes with its own challenges, with the ‘revolving door’ of prisoners meaning frequent referrals, high caseloads and never ending to-do lists. Even under the pressures of this fast-paced environment, it has been refreshing to see that the service users and their needs have always taken priority. “A typical day within the team incorporates...What’s it like to work in EDP’s prison substance misuse service?
