One of our staff shares her experiences of working in an EDP Prison Service:

“I started working in the prison as a support worker. After seven months in this post, feeling as though I was in need of a new challenge, I applied and was successful at interview for a Recovery Worker post. As part of this new role, I have been more closely involved in the programmes we run, facilitating groups. In preparation for starting the recovery worker role, I was given the opportunity to shadow my colleagues delivering some sessions. Since then I have co-facilitated or lone facilitated a number of modules

In facilitating groups I have witnessed the group bonding and coming together, challenging each other and their own thinking and developing the skills and ways of thinking to take with them through the rest of the groups on the BRP. The service users have described the groups I’ve facilitated as “thought provoking”, “an eye opener” and “fun” and list some of the benefits as being given the opportunity to meet new people, learn new skills, understanding recovery, work as a group and work through problems. As a facilitator, in my first few months of delivering group programmes, I have seen the positive effect that accessing support in a group setting can have on our clients and their outlook on their future recovery.”
