We are so grateful to everyone who made EDP’s first ever sleep out on Friday 28th April such a great success. 12 people slept out all night with many more supporting the event.
We are extremely grateful to Saxon Square for giving us permission to hold the event in their shopping centre, to the council for keeping the toilets open all night, to Funky Little Choir who performed, to Christchurch Rotary and Shelterbox for bringing down their shelter for us to use and the local police for supporting the event.
So many local businesses got involved in promoting and supporting the event including Costa, who stayed open late for us, Greggs, for donating food for the event and Arcado Lounge for bringing everyone hot drinks. Thank you to you all!
Everyone really enjoyed it.
Liana, volunteer in our EDP Christchurch service, shares her experience of the event:
On Friday 28th April, I attended the EDP Sleepout in Saxon Square with my Partner. The evening was started off beautifully by 2 performances by the Funky Little Choir who also sparked a lot of interest from passers by and in turn, many asked questions about our event and took EDP leaflets. Snacks and hot drinks were donated by local companies and were very much appreciated by all taking part when the cold started setting in.
One of the highlights for myself was the cardboard shelter competition and this really lifted everyone’s spirits as were getting later into the night. Almost all sleepout participants got involved and we were all hurriedly trying to build the best shelter. We even had a few of our street homeless clients join us for the event which we really appreciated. After all, the whole event was to raise awareness and it was lovely to have their support. Throughout the night we had a lot of people enquiring about the event and a huge amount of support shown.
I may not have got much sleep that evening but I can definitely say that it was a really worthwhile experience and I truly enjoyed being a part of it. I would like to say Thankyou to EDP and everyone who helped make the event possible. Bring on the next one!
You can still get involved.
The evening so far has raised over £1,600 with more sponsorship coming in every day. If you would like to support our work the following sleep out pages will be open for sponsorship until the end of May. Why not donate today and help us reach our target of £2,000!
