Our Strategy 2011

Substance misuse shatters the lives of many individuals, families and communities. EDP’s core business is to provide accessible services, which support and motivate people affected by substance misuse to rebuild their lives, recover and re-connect to their families and community.

EDP was set up by a group of drug users and carers. The group was determined to find a way to offer safe and supportive spaces for those affected by substance misuse and to challenge discrimination towards them.  Their pioneering spirit, compassion and dedication are evident in the staff and volunteers who work in the organisation today.

Within our services we witness many transitions in the recovery journey:

  • from a life dominated by substance misuse to one of wellbeing and choice.
  • from a life of worklessness to one enriched by learning and meaningful occupation.
  • from homelessness and exclusion to secure housing and participation in community life.
  • from a life which feels hopeless to one with ambition for recovery.
  • from a life of crime to one without offending and
  • from prisons and institutions to social acceptance within communities.

Our expertise lies in our ability to facilitate positive change. As an organisation we are proud of our own ability to change and adapt. We believe we must continue to reflect, transform and grow so we can meet the changing needs of our service users and the changing social context within which we work.

We recognise that, to ensure long-lasting change, we need to build strong partnerships both within and outside our organisation, with individuals, families, our communities and our funders.  Our core strategic themes centre upon
