Moving On Programme: The Final Piece of the Jigsaw
"The programme has helped me with motivation and given me hope for the future. I would go as far as to say I actually feel positive!"
"Made some really positive and powerful decisions about my future – finally decided where I want to go in my life!"
Just two of the many positive comments fed back by participants attending the first module in Exeter.
The Moving On Programme was set up in response to an identified unmet need for our service users in Devon – that people using drugs are often unable to make the clear transition, following treatment, back into their communities and engage in meaningful occupation, including education, training and employment.
The programme is aimed at those service users in Tier 3 seeking to move beyond treatment services and who are not using their stated problematic drug of choice. Service users will have made best use of elements of stage 2, have demonstrated a period of stability and be looking for strategies to prepare for leaving treatment. Criminal Justice clients are eligible to attend!
The outcomes for service users we hope to achieve include:
- Increased confidence and self-esteem
- Ability to effectively disclose criminal records to employers
- Increased awareness of options and entry into volunteering, education, training or employment
- A nationally accredited qualification to enhance their future options
The pilot was launched in February in our three Devon Centres using funding provided by the 21st May 1961 charity and Exeter Positive Steps fund. We now have five groups running and recruitment is going well for further groups.
