Kevin: Criminal Justice Services

At the age of seven, Kevin inherited a stammer and as consequence experienced many difficulties including problems at school.  His confidence and self-esteem suffered and he started to play truant, eventually becoming involved in crime.  After his release from an approved school, Kevin began mixing with a new crowd and started experimenting with alcohol.  At first Kevin felt like a “new person” and believed alcohol gave him the confidence he had been lacking.  However, very quickly his drinking got out of control and began to impact on his relationships with family and friends.  Kevin committed crimes to support his drinking habit and after several spells in prison is now serving a five year term.

While in prison Kevin has been able to complete an alcohol awareness course.  This has helped him to better understand the causes of his offending behaviour and to identify high risk situations.  He feels more confident about the future and is committed to making lasting changes.  Kevin says that he is now able to deal with problems in a positive way without the need for alcohol.
